A Cappella Chorus

A Cappella is an ensemble comprised of high school men and women who perform mostly unaccompanied selections. As the main musical outreach of the Vocal Arts Program, the A Cappella Chorus tours yearly to different parts of the United States to share our tradition of song. It is the vision of the chorus to expand into an international ministry by 2009-2010.

  Vocal Jazz Ensemble

Comprised of between 8 and 12 mixed voices, the GAC Vocal Jazz Ensemble was conceived as a companion to the highly successful GAC Jazz Band. Members will perform mostly a cappella selections but will occasionally combine with instrumentalists. Participation is by audition only, though any interested student may observe rehearsals. Performing opportunities include, but are not limited to chapels, winter and spring concerts and festivals or competitions.

  Junior High Choir

Our Junior High Choirs build on the foundation of our excellent Elementary music program and its director, Dr. Robin Hensely. The GAC Junior High Choral program currently consists of two choirs; the Sixth Grade Choir and the combined 7th & 8th Grade Choir. These groups represent GAC across the region in various competitions as well as locally in concerts and through Christian service. This group performs in our Fall Concert, Christmas Concerts, in the District 13 Honor Choruses as well as in GAC's "Spartan Spectacular" and our Spring Concert as well.

  Promises Chorus

As children master the early childhood and elementary music curriculum, many diverse experiences develop their musical literacy and prompt a love of singing and performing. Promises Chorus, a select, auditioned group for 4th and 5th graders, offers upper elementary singers the opportunity to delve more deeply into musical study by learning two and three part choral literature, increasing their musical knowledge, and working effectively as a performing ensemble. Children enjoy a wide variety of music including American folk songs, classical literature, new compositions, sacred songs, Broadway favorites, and spirituals. Choreography, solo singing, and instrument playing are often part of our musical interpretations. Promises singers represent our school both on and off campus as leaders of the Elementary division.

Promises families commit to weekly before- school rehearsals and a spring tour. The group performs 6-8 times each semester, including the all-school Thanksgiving assembly, Grandparent’s Day, and 5th Grade Graduation, and enjoys several fellowship events. Outreach is always part of our year together. Parent participation facilitates our success.

Believing that leadership and character development go hand in hand, we encourage all singers to grow musically, spiritually, and emotionally as we seek to serve others and to represent God, our families, and our school through participating in Promises.
